I’ve received a Pre Proceedings Letter, what should I do?

Do not ignore this letter. It means social services are seriously worried and may ask the Family Court to become involved.
What should I do first?
Contact a children law solicitor straight away.
Tell them you have received a Letter Before Proceedings. You should normally be able to get legal aid for advice and help at this stage.
Take the letter and any other plans or reports with you.
What happens next?
You will usually be invited to a pre-proceedings meeting.
Your solicitor can attend with you and help you:
- understand the concerns;
- explain your side;
- ask what support is available;
- agree what needs to change.
Attend meetings and assessments. Ask questions if you do not understand something.
Tell your solicitor about relatives who could safely help care for your child.
