IMPORTANT CONDITIONS
Some of the most important conditions are outlined below:
- The incident must have been reported to the police as soon as was reasonably practicable
- You must have cooperated as far as reasonably practicable in bringing your assailant to justice, which means that you must have fully cooperated with the police
- Compensation can be reduced or withheld if you have an excessive number of unspent criminal convictions
- Any application to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority must be made within 2 years of the date of the incident (however there are exceptions to this rule in certain circumstances)
- We can advise that it is still possible to make a claim for compensation even if the perpetrator of the attack is not caught or convicted. A successful application to the CICA is not contingent upon the police arresting and charging your assailant or upon a guilty verdict.
